Oman is a fascinating county for both landscape and street photography. We wonder through towns and villages on foot: the best way to capture daily life. In the vast – and empty – countryside we take our 4-wheel drives to get close to photogenic locations, and catch the best light. Daily photo viewing sessions (except when we are in the desert) and individual feedback during the photo shoots will give you plenty of input to take great images, and to improve your photography skills where necessary.

Oman is one of the lesser known countries in the Middle East. Mountains and vast stretches of desert made it difficult to travel. New roads and four wheel drives have opened up Oman for more foreign visitors. Although plenty of people stay away nowadays because of its location.

We have experienced Oman as one of the safest and friendliest countries to travel to. Neighbouring country Jemen is still 1000 km of desert away from the part of Oman that we are visiting during this tour. The people of Oman adhere to Ibadism, a kind of Islam where hospitality is more important than all other religious rules. People are friendly and very welcoming. Hamood is our fantastic local guide, who knows what photographers are looking for.  And he always manages to find us the most perfect picnick spots.

Photo Tour Oman: an overview

The photo tour Oman takes off in Muscat, Oman’s capital. From here we drive along the coast to Sur, before we head into the desert for a 2-night stay at the Safari Desert Camp. Once we leave the desert behind, we encounter villages and towns with houses, people, countless date trees and forts reminiscing of the flourishing trade in myrrh and incense. We explore the mud houses of Bhala and the vibrant Nizwa goat market. On the way back to the coast we take the off-road route through the awe instilling gorge of Wadi Bani Awf.
